POTS wiring

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Due to the desire to improve my DSL connection speed to BeThere, I took steps to investigate whether the in-house wiring was adding to the noise-floor on the line.

I thus needed to (re)work out the wiring used in UK PSTN wiring, and found the following resources online:

And a footnote, the Irish system is different from the UK system!

Syncing my cellphone

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I previously found Mobical for syncing my phone using SyncML, but their site seem to have gone AWOL. Looking for alternatives, I found:

  • ScheduleWorld – syncs contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. Includes integration with Google Calendar
  • ZYB

I’m having trouble syncing the 900+ contacts from my 6600 to both of them :-(

Second life

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Second Life is an MMORPG with a difference.

After downloading a relatively large application, you are presented with a graphical world, wherein you move around.

You can (upon paying the subscription fee) purchase virtual land, and put up your own building. This will cost you money, which you can obtain by exchanging real-world currency, or by selling services to other inhabitants of the world.

You can do almost all of what you can do in the real world, and some that you cannot :)

What a lovely car…

I’d love a Tesla. Looks great, fast, quiet, and amazing torque due to the electric drive-train.

I’ve been monitoring this sector since spotting the TZero electric sportscar from AC Propulsion. The Wrightspeed X1 (a electric derivative of the Ariel Atom) which uses the drive-train from AC Propulsion is worth keeping an eye on as well.

Here’s hoping these cars don’t go the way of the EV1 before them.

Ultimately, the Moller Skycar is my goal, but their rotary engine propulsion system probably needs another iteration…

Dark Side of The Moon

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

I have been very remiss in not posting earlier about the best concert I’ve attended for a long while, last month. Jaime and I went to Hyde Park Calling and watched Roger Waters (and in the latter set) Nick Mason do a *lot* of great Pink Floyd tracks.

I took a few photos at the event, and got bits of ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Great Gig In The Sky’ as video. The GGITS was admirably performed by a fabulous singer (either Katie Kissoon or Carol Kenyon). The delivery was equally emotive and powerful as Clare Torry’s original.
